This is my first video upload on youtube. It's an unboxing video of the Canon Vixia HF M31 HD Camcorder. The video was recorded with my brother's Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX580. I'm not an expert on camcorders or video recordings or home movies so I don't think I'll be able to do a professional review of the camcorder. I bought this camcorder for entry level video recording. However, I might do a review from the point of view of a consumer or a college student. I hope you enjoy the video!

The Consumer Electronics Fail of the Year Award goes to Canon, for introducing the new FS300 flash memory camcorder for 2010, replacing last year's FS200. So what's new? They deleted the external microphone and headphone jacks, but kept the price the same! Otherwise it is identical to the FS200, except with slightly improved image stabilization. The new FS31 also deletes the mic and headphone jacks, and also downgrades the image sensor from 1.07M to 680k pixels, compared to the outgoing FS21, but at least they dropped the price. But still, who in their right mind would settle for such a downgraded camera? The FS200 has been on sale recently for as low as US9. At that price, you can get a 16 GB flash memory card to put in it, and have a better camera overall than the new FS31, at a lower price. "New" doesn't always mean "Improved"!
I would like to video lessons. therefore sound must be good. I would like a camera video recorder where the picture is decent enough to watch on tv.
do i need to consider the following factors? or what do I need to look out for?
1. sound? should I look out for mono versus stereo sound? or does all camcorders come in stereo sound?
2. picture quality? mega pixels? what is optimal for lessons? should I only consider HD?
3. external Microphone input? does handheld cameras offer microphone inputs? or will i be forces to use the built in microphone?
4. Memory? does all the recording go to harddrive? or SD? or miniDVD? which is better? I want to record on end without worrying about space. obviously I will backup as necessary.
5. Lighting...how does small handheld's handle lighting? will I require additional lighting? or does these devices have features to handle low light? or what should i look out for?
Say I would like to film weddings...would low cost hand held cameras be sufficient? what should i get or look out for in this regard?
any advice will be appreciated!
thanks in advance!
